Everything You Truly Want to Know Relating to Botox Sydney
Sydney Botulinum injections (Botox for short) has become ingrained in Sydney society in fact it is becoming an important part of grooming for many in Sydney. But I never cease to be amazed when I hear the misguided misinformation about the treatment.
Here are a selection of the more myths that we come across everyday at Star Cosmetic Medicine, where I practise as a physician.
Misconception no. 1: Botox may immobilize all my facial expressions!
Below the skin of the face are sixty or so muscles. These normally perform harmoniously, however over a period of time expression lines may appear. Too many treatments of Botox can lead to the facial muscles becoming moderately less expressive. Most doctors would use relatively minute amounts to make you look less tired, yet your face will continue to look just as expressive.
Therefore a carefully measured amount of Botox in the right site means you can get a reduction in the lines without compromising facial expression.
Misconception no. 2: Botox is poisonous!
This to a small extent is right. Botulinum Toxin Type A is the correct medical nomenclature. An overdose may end up in a decrease in muscle tone or may even cause sickness.
Chemists have a famous expression that states ‘everything is poisonous – it all depends on the dose’. A large dose of any medicine will bring on illness. If you drink too great a quantity of water you will die.
Misconception no. 3: Botox hurts!
In our practice Star Cosmetic Medicine the physician utilises a hypodermic needle smaller than a human hair. Several individuals compare the treatments to a mosquito bite. It for certain is less sore than something like a blood profile.
Misconception no. 4: I might lose feeling in my face!
Not true. Botulinum medicine works primarily on the neuromuscular junction, not the nerves of sensation. Botox just impacts on the ability to relax muscles.
Misconception no. 5. You can’t stop getting Botox or you might age faster than before!
Also false.
The first Botox treatment will be effective for approximately 3 months. Further injections tend to last a little longer. The wrinkles will slowly reform as the muscle regains its normal function. Nevertheless they will not be more pronounced than before the treatment commenced.
Even if you never had Botox again – any wrinkles should be smoother than if you had not been treated. This, of course is obviously because your skin has had a ‘wrinkle holiday’ during the therapy.
